Writing SEM Ads
Writing effective ads for your SEM campaigns is key to getting the most clicks. It's fairly important that you assume most consumers will be attracted to ads that satisfy there needs and not your own. You are a business owner, they are a consumer. What you think may attract them could actually have a negative impact. be sure to ask others, including current customers what they would like to see if they were looking for your product or service. Do your research, it will pay off in the end. Most SEM programs will have tools to help you find the best keywords and write effective ads. Use them as a primary resource - their information is usually accurate because they want you to continue advertising with them.
If you already have first page listings for a certain search term through organic results, don't write your ads with the same info as your natural listing. Instead, take a different approach. For example, if you rank #2 for Chicago Muffler Shop and your description below that listing is "Same day exhaust, while you wait. Lowest prices, quality products guaranteed. Serving all of Chicagoland" then you should include completely different info for your paid listing at the top of the page. Consider titling your ad to read "chicago muffler pros" with a description of "no appointment needed, fast service, 7 days a week". The purpose is that now you have a paid listing at the top which reads one thing and an organic listing that reads another. It seems like two seperate business. Since the title and descriptions do not match, it's more likely that if a searcher reads the listing they will also read the second. If both listings are the same, they will likely ignore thesecond one.
Try to give yourself the biggest possible advantage you can. Be creative and try new things, just be aware of the cost that's associated with it, you don't want your experiments to get you in over your head. Don't hesitate to do some searching and evaluate what your competitors are doing. The more you know the better you'll do.
