Intro to SEO

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of optimizing a websites content to achieve the highest possible rankings on search engine result pages (SERPs). Websites that incorporate SEO are typically optimized for a certain keyword or phrase, or a group of keywords or phrases related to one another. The most common purpose of SEO is for business use, where a website is optimized for the products or services they are offering.  Websites can be highly profitable and indespensable marketing tools when used correctly and directed at the proper audience, however competition is literally unlimited on the world-wide-web. Saavy business owners and marketers alike know that regardless of how pretty or flashy a website is, it can't make money for your business unless it's properly organzied and has plenty of traffic - and those who have plenty of natural traffic usually have a well optimized website,

Whether you offer a service or run an online store, chances are you wont find any new business from the web unless people can find you. Everyday the general public is bombarded with a wealth of advertising information; slogans, images, web addresses, etc.. To expect profit from your website simply because your web address is on a business card or in a yellow pages ad is not a very well thought plan, not to mention that the exposure from those mediums only reaches so far. The internet is worldwide and provides you with unlimited business potential by offering a seemingly endless array of untapped territory to explore.  You can advertise your website on TV, newspaper, flyers, radio, company vehicles and more - but for any small business, the amount of sales that are converted on your website which are produced by those forms of advertising remain critically low. In fact, the best form of advertising which will produce sales conversions on your website is the web itself, and it's not through advertising on other websites. It's through the process of Search Engine Marketing.

When someone is looking for a specific product or service online, all they have to do is go to a search engine, type in a few words and instantly they are provided with an enormous list of results from around the world. The closer to the top of the list a business is, the more likely they are to get a sale or even gain a new regular customer - and in turn, the true power of SEO is the ability to obtain a listing on the very first page of search rengine result pages (SERPs). If your website is well optimized and targets the correct keywords and phrases, you will gain exposure from people searching for what you have to offer; most of who would otherwise never find or even be aware your website.

In the next few articles, we will cover the requirements, necessities, rules and strategies of proper SEO.
